Throwback Thursday 002
This post is about the time I visited the grand canyon of the east - “Letchworth State Park” in New York. I was super into taking pictures of waterfalls and surprisingly most of the state parks in NY are full of them. I visited this park in 2017 with a group of friends I worked with. The fall season was just starting and I could already see the orange and the gold covering the canyon. The park had 3 major waterfalls, upper, middle and the lower falls. We skipped the lower falls and drove straight up to the upper falls. To our surprise, the trail to upper falls was closed unfortunately and nobody was allowed to get there. Here is where we did something crazy, me and my friend Andrey, got off the trail and went down to the waterbed. Then we walked up to the upper waterfall on the edge of the water, jumping around on rocks. I know, now that I think about it, it was stupid and risky, because the water here led straight to middle falls and you will see later why this was risky. Anyways, our decision paid off massively. We got to the upper falls and it was amazing. There was no one there and we took a lot of pictures doing crazy poses in front of the falls. I surely had to get one with the falls in long exposure, and this is the one, with me in the picture. Such a reward for taking a small risk, I was so glad it paid off.
Once we were done fooling around near the upper falls, we then went back the way we came and it was a short walk to the middle falls. The rest of the group was already hanging out there. I was thinking that I already saw the best waterfall for the day, not until I saw what’s coming next. Walking up to it from behind, I could hear the loud roar of huge waterfall. I was in awe looking at such grand falls, so beautiful. There was less people, so I got to play around with my long exposure again and capture all of this grandiose. While taking the pictures, I realized where the water is coming from and what we were doing before this. I am glad I didn’t see the middle falls first, there is no way I might have gone off trail if I knew this is where the water was going. I love this picture :)
