Rise and Fall of the Colors - Part 1
Alright, its been a while but I have had a busy couple of weeks and I finally got back to process the pictures I captured 2 weeks ago. It was the peak of the Fall, and there was a lot of Fall action going on here. I captured too many pictures in different formats and I don’t want to bombard one post with all of them.
First, as always, I drove to Black hill state park. It was flooded with amazing colors and I tried to get there before the sunrise (advantage of pre daylight savings time). It started off with a nice pink hue in the skies, very few people around and I had all the time to experiment with different types of shots. The first one with minimal light, I attempted a long exposure to reduce the movement in the lake, so that I can capture the mirror effect of the pink hue skies.
It was subtle, but I loved it. As the sun started to rise, I quickly ran around to find another composition that could be frame for the sunrise. I was facing west the entire time as the lake was towards the west. That means the subject in the frame would be perfectly lit. On my way to a bridge, I saw gooses swimming around. Surely they ruined the stillness in the water, but I still tried to jump in and capture them.
As you can see, the sun was already rising and I still don’t have a good composition. I should have done my homework before, but that’s okay. The day was amazing, the colors were amazing and I was having a great time. I got the bridge, and met another photographer. He had my current favorite camera, Nikon Z8 and we got to chat about how amazing the conditions and the lights were. I forgot his name, but I do remember his shortname, Moose. Funny guy and he did give me some great tips and another location I could go shoot later. After talking to moose, I turned around and that’s where the magic happened. It was a perfect scene to see. I don’t know if I captured what I saw there that day. The trees were perfectly lit by the rising sun, where the light was creeping from between the water bed.
It was amazing, and I felt like I think I got the best picture for the day, perhaps even the season. Another shot here in the landscape.
Surely, I was ready to just pack up and go home. I didn’t think anything else would top this. I was so wrong. Some more amazing shots to come in the next part.
